Flood Resilience Engagement Advisor

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and dedicated to join the team to lead on our engagement with local communities and partners.
This an exciting role, central to ensuring that communities in Hampshire and Sussex are better prepared for flooding, more resilient to its impacts. Through your engagement with those at risk from flooding, you will play an active role, empowering them to protect themselves and their property, now and in the future. You will attend local community events, supporting Flood Action Groups and working closely with professional partners, local councils and other Environment Agency Teams.
You'll play an active role in networks, establishing and sharing best practice, identifying continuous improvements and make a real difference to people's lives and livelihoods through reducing the impact of flooding and how quickly communities can recover.
You'll develop a good knowledge of how the Environment Agency and our partners manage flood risk, and the role that communities can play. You'll shape this role to ensure we are delivering effective engagement which benefits our communities.
As an engagement advisor, you'll help to lead and co-ordinate engagement activities. You will support the training and development of staff who deliver engagement on flood risk.
The team
The Flood Resilience Team ensures our Area (SSD) responds to and recovers from floods through work undertaken through three workstreams: community resilience, maintaining and improving our flood warning service and flood incident management. We lead co-ordination of community engagement, work closely with the Area Incident team, and with professional partners to raise awareness and resilience of communities, ensuring that they are better prepared to respond to flood events.
Experience/skills required
- You will be people-focused and have experience in engaging with a variety of customers.
- You will be a confident communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to successfully deliver difficult messages to a variety of customers.
- You will have a good knowledge of different consultation and engagement techniques.
- You will be highly organised, enthusiastic and self-motivated to effectively manage multiple partners and stakeholders simultaneously.
- You will be confident working within a team environment and able to develop networks locally and nationally.
- Your influencing skills will enable you to collaborate successfully and secure positive outcomes through engagement.
- Your ability to be adaptable and deliver work within tight timescales will be an advantage as, on occasion, work must be reactive when flooding occurs.
- You will have a willingness to build your understanding of flood risk management.
