JOB SUMMARY

To provide an efficient and confidential secretarial and administrative support service to the Minor Injuries Unit and its staff ensuring the smooth running of the MIU reception area and registration of walk in patients.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To greet patients presenting to the MIU unit ensuring that they are received into unit in a polite and professional manner, recognising that some patients may require urgent assistance. To support clinical staff in an emergency situation.
2. To effectively manage the administrative system to ensure that patients are accepted and registered into MIU and identified as requiring assessment. This includes maintaining efficient use of patient’s records by identifying, creating, maintaining and discharging notes as patients pass through the Department.
4. Using own communication skills to ensure that patients who may need urgent consultation are seen appropriately.
5. Checking and preparing client records for all disciplines and other paper work for review - highlighting omissions / discrepancies.
6. To monitor and regularly update the information displays in the reception and patient areas.
7. Co-ordination of department’s training and mandatory activities, including manual handling, fire safety etc

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into
the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a
comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training
and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to
also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in
engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office
in Rainham, Essex
1. Assisting clinical staff with the ordering of stores and maintenance of equipment referring to appropriate departments as required.
2. To receive, sort and distribute mail within the Department promptly.
3. To respond to requests for information from staff and other agencies recognising protocols of the Trust.
4. Work without supervision and take responsibility for prioritising own day to day workload which can be unpredictable, in conjunction with deadlines and the needs of the team.
5. To competently work within current procedures for own working practices and to, where appropriate, implement changes to improve own working practices and procedures.
6. Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines related to own service.
7. To work flexibly in order to ensure that all work is completed in a timely manner.
