Undertake research in order to support the work of the HistoMaps (HistoMaps: Stain agnostic feature representations to identify clinically relevant traits in the tumour microenvironment) project lead and assist the project collaborators in the successful execution of the project.

This is an immensely exciting opportunity to join the HistoMaps (HistoMaps: Stain agnostic feature representations to identify clinically relevant traits in the tumour microenvironment) project team based in the Department of Computer Science, University of Warwick as a Research Fellow. The HistoMaps project has received funding from MRC to develop AI tools for developing histology maps (HistoMaps) of the tumour microenvironment using haematoxylin and eosin (HE), immunohistochemistry (IHC) and multiplexed immunofluorescence (MxIF) stained whole slide images. The collaborative project is led by Tissue Image Analytics (TIA) Centre at the University of Warwick and provides an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary dynamic team with collaborators from Warwick Medical School, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, University College London, Institute of Cancer Research, Royal Marsden Hospital and Nvidia on the MONAI project. The TIA Centre at Warwick is a global leader in computational pathology and focusses on developing AI algorithms for the analysis of digital images for cancer diagnosis, grading and predicting cancer outcome.

You will also be expected to work closely with project partners in terms of data integration and management as well as development of enabling technologies in this area that can potentially meet regulatory requirements and be suitable for deployment into a clinical setting.

If you are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD but have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant at the top of level 5 of the University grade structure (£32,411). Upon receipt of evidence of the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure (£33,348).

**JOB PURPOSE**

Undertake research to support the work of the HistoMaps project lead, and, where appropriate, assist the project collaborators in the successful execution of the project.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Research and Scholarship**
- Work with the project team to conduct research on big data management and/or deep learning for pathology image analytics to meet the Warwick team’s responsibilities.
- Work independently and alongside the project partners to meet the larger project objectives.
- Write up research work for presentation at top international conferences and publication in high quality journals.
- Continually translate knowledge gained from the research process into additional areas / methods of research.
- Contribute to the preparation of paper for project management and responses to funding agencies.
- Present information on research progress and outcomes to project participants.
- Communicate complex information (orally and in writing) and material of a specialist or highly technical nature.
- Help establish a sound research base within the department in order to assist the development of research objectives and proposals for own or joint research, as required by the project lead.
- Continually update own knowledge and understanding in field or specialism.
- May be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects and the development of student research skills.

**Administration and Other Activities**
- Will be required to attend team meetings and to participate (where necessary) in other working groups within the project.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety in all aspects of work.
- Work within budget constraints.
- Undertake any additional tasks that fit with the role and grade of the role.
- Travel to project partners, as and when required.
