The School of Natural Sciences conducts world-leading research and teaching across a diverse range of topics including zoology, biology, forestry, geography, agriculture and conservation. The Project

The successful applicant will be based in the School of Natural Sciences at Bangor University and suitable IT equipment will be provided. The majority of the molecular laboratory work will be performed in newly refurbished laboratories within the Brambell Building located on the main campus.

**Responsibilities**:

- Design and implementation of high quality research experiments in the laboratory and field (e.g. those looking at nutrient and carbon dynamics in the plant-soil-microbial system).- Maintain excellent records of research activities.- To help PhD students with the design and implementation of experiments and the dissemination of best practice.- To write high quality journal papers, preferably as first author.- Contribute to the delivery of impact from the wider research group.- Work closely with Prof Davey Jones to discuss and deliver new research ideas.Other

- Education/Qualification_

Essential
- A PhD (or be near completion) in an area such as Environmental Science, Soil Science, Plant Science, Agronomy, Microbiology, Agricultural Science, Crop Science, and/or a related field.- Previous use of advanced techniques and approaches to study plant-soil-microbial processes.- Previous experience of studying nutrient cycling in laboratory and/or field environments.- Statistical knowledge for the analysis of complex datasets (e.g. using the R programming language).- Strong publication track record in international peer-reviewed journals. This is evidenced by papers in Q1 journals and associated citation metrics.Desirable
- Prior expertise in molecular techniques (e.g. qPCR) to determine the composition and activity of microbial communities.- Use of radio or stable isotopic tracers to study the behaviour of plant, microbial and/or soil ecosystems.- Experience/Knowledge_

Essential
- Strong background in the undertaking cutting-edge research in the field of environmental science.- Experience in working as part of a wider group and in the supervision of technical support staff or postgraduate students.- Good general computing competency.- statistical skills including general statistical methods- Good presentation skills.Desirable
