Applications are invited for the above fixed term full-time post working in The School of Ocean Sciences.

Duties will include using tidal proxies to validate existing tidal model simulations for the Proterozoic, Carboniferous, and Cretaceous. New simulations will be done to tune the model and for unexplored time slices, and the results prepared for dissemination at conferences and in publications. The project is a collaboration between scientists at Bangor University and Royal Holloway University of London.

The post is located at the School of Ocean Sciences, a leading research institution in marine science, and one of the largest teaching departments in Europe. The school is home to well-resourced groups in the principal disciplines of biology, chemistry, geology, and physics.

The Project

Purpose of the Job

The post is part of an established team working on deep-time Earth System science, particularly tides. The postholder will be responsible for comparing existing proxies and model simulations, and planning and conducting new simulations and analysing the model outputs. They are expected to publish the results in peer-reviewed journals alongside presenting them at national and international conferences. This is a multidisciplinary and multi-institution project, and the post holder is expected to liaise with the project partners and take an active part role in moving the project forward. Excellent interpersonal skills are vital.

**Responsibilities**:

- Evaluate existing numerical tidal model simulations and compare results to existing tidal proxies for the periods of interest.
- Do new tidal model simulations, if necessary, to tune the model to data.
- Assist with collection of new data in the field.
- Delivering research outcomes: contribute to the dissemination of research outputs through relevant scientific articles, public press releases, and conferences.
- Participation in in project meeting and coordinating the project to meet aims.
- Monitoring of financial controls associated with the research project.
- Advise and collaborate with Master’s and PhD students within the research programme.

- The ability to undertake quantitative analysis of tidal data.
- Experience of numerical modelling of tides.
- Proven track record of producing relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals commensurate with career stage.
- Proven track record of delivering conference presentations commensurate with career stage.

- Tectonic research experience
- Experience of working with paleo-tides
- Experience of geological field work
