Job Overview The School of Environmental and Natural Sciences at Bangor University is seeking a Senior Research Technician to support a new Defra-funded project on the agronomic environmental benefits of livestock slurry separation. This is a full-time, 18‑month fixed‑term position (Grade 6) with a salary of £30,805 – £37,174 p.a. and a contract lasting until 31 July 2027. Key Responsibilities Collect slurry samples from commercial farms and participate in the setup and daily operation of plot‑scale field experiments. Carry out soil, slurry, vegetation and greenhouse gas sampling, and conduct laboratory analyses. Process separated slurry fractions and analyse for phosphorus forms. Maintain and operate basic field equipment, laboratory instruments and glasshouse facilities. Record, tabulate and analyse experimental data, prepare graphs and present findings at project meetings. Liaise with the research team and project partner ADAS to ensure protocols are followed and data is shared. Complete risk assessments, COSHH assessments and other health and safety duties as required. Represent the project team at national meetings when required. Attend project team and School meetings and support the wider research group. Qualifications & Training 2 AS Levels or 1 A Level or NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject (biology, chemistry, physics, agriculture, environmental science, etc.). Undergraduate degree in a relevant subject (e.g. environmental sciences, biology, chemistry or agriculture) – desirable. Experience & Knowledge Experience of working in a field‑based research setting and following experimental or laboratory protocols. Evidence of using Microsoft Office or similar packages to enter data and produce accurate datasets. Knowledge of health and safety issues in a relevant field or laboratory situation.\Experience in designing and setting up field and laboratory experiments – desirable. Essential Skills & Abilities Teamwork and motivation to work independently. Ability to prioritise own work and meet deadlines. Driving licence (required for travel to remote field sites). Competency in the use of spreadsheets and Word. Desirable Skills & Abilities Flexibility work out of hours occasionally. Ability to travel to other field sites as required by ADAS. Ability to communicate in Welsh – desirable. Benefits & Working Conditions The role will be based at the Environment Centre Wales with significant time spent at Henfaes Research Centre. The position requires the successful applicant to be physically active for most of the day and includes desk work. Part‑time or job share arrangements can be considered.
