**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

As the Health & Safety Assistant you will provide assistance with all health, Safety matters. This role will require you to spend a significant amount of time on the warehouse floor carrying out inspections and risk assessment as and when required.

**Your key responsibilities will include**:

- Assist in the implementation of preventative measures to promote health, safety, welfare and compliance on site.
- Help compile KPI data on the performance of the health, safety and environmental management targets.
- Carry out risk and COSHH assessments in line with current regulations detailed within the legal register.
- Attend H&S reps meetings and help action any resulting findings from these meetings.
- Produce a monthly report on the key activities completed the previous month, this could include accident investigations completed, work on projects, near miss close outs, etc.
- Assist your manager in the maintenance of the ISO standards that Portwest hold.
- Conduct Internal audits in line with the audit schedule.
- Carry out monitor and measuring duties as part of legal compliance.
- Carry out induction of contractors that attend our site and maintain up to date insurance and RAMS for these contractors.
- Make suggestions for the continued improvement of procedures carried out on site.
- Carry out training where required to ensure employee understanding and competence.
- Prepare a personal development plan and work towards its fulfilment.
- Assist/carry out other duties that are relevant for the function of the role.

**SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS**

To become the Health, Safety Assistant you will need:

- To be committed to working safely.
- Have good communication skills.
- Be a trained internal auditor to at least one ISO standard.
- Hold a minimum of NEBOSH Certificate.
- Be committed to developing yourself through self-study and tailored training.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft office software.

**DESIRED ABILITIES**
- Ability to manage own time.
- Self-confident with the ability to challenge unsafe behaviours.
- 2 Years’ experience working in a full time H&S role.
- Experience with compliance decelerations e.g. packaging, WEEE and batteries.
