Dundee, United Kingdom University of Dundee Full time

Clinical Research Fellow in airways research.

Clinical Academic Grade. 1 FTE, 1 year in first instance

Start date negotiable depending on training needs and OOPT

The Scottish Centre for Respiratory Research (SCRR) are looking to welcome an exceptional individual to join our team as a Clinical Research Fellow within the Division of Molecular and Clinical Medicine.

This is a unique opportunity to work under the direct supervision of Prof Brian Lipworth. Prof Brian Lipworth is head of SCRR which presently comprises their clinical research fellows and two clinical research assistants. To date, Prof Brian Lipworth has supervised 28 clinical fellows many of whom are now also international opinion leaders.

The post will focus on type 2 inflammation and its role in airways disease including asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) in relation to biologics therapy.

SCRR has an international track record of research excellence and is a stimulating supportive environment in which clinical fellows can flourish.

The post could be suitable for people at different stages of their career. Applications will be especially welcome from Specialist Registrars in Respiratory or ENT who wish to interrupt their training by taking time out to do an MD thesis to improve their CV optimising the chances of getting the exact consultant job they want. It would also suit individuals who wants to develop an academic angle towards their consultant post in the future, with enhanced opportunities for achieving a University teaching hospital consultant position.

Your priorities will include:

- Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to set up and run clinical trials
- Helping to design additional research studies as indicated
- Contribution to the production of publications and project reports
- Performing end-point data analysis

Full training and support will be given in all aspects of research.

Who we’re looking for:

- Someone who is highly motivated and keen to do research during their specialist training, wanting to gain some experience of research or perhaps wanting to pursue a career in research long-term. Like most things in life you won’t know if you like it until you try it your self.
- Someone who has a primary medical qualification recognised in the UK and has a licence to practice within the UK by General Medical Council. Must also hold MRCP/MRCS or equivalent qualification or be on the specialist register.

For further information about this position please contact Professor Brian Lipworth at:
