Applications are open for this 6‑month post based within the Intensive Care Unit at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. This fixed‑term post covers a maternity absence and will run until 4th August 2026. Candidates will join a team of three other clinical fellows in ICU. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in a welcoming and forward‑thinking department. The position is intended to increase doctors’ experience of critical‑care practice prior to national recruitment. Opportunities will be provided to enhance portfolios, giving a competitive edge in future recruitment. Suitable for those who have completed an ACCS or core training programme; applicants who have completed foundation training and wish to explore a critical‑care career are also invited to apply. Doctors will participate in ward rounds, MDT meetings, and ongoing care of critically ill patients. Supervised assessment of patients in the Emergency Department and hospital wards requiring critical‑care input. Out‑of‑hours on‑call commitments on a critical‑care rota; cover as one of two resident doctors during hours and weekends with senior trainee support. Residency on the critical‑care units is supported by dedicated consultant cover 24 hrs/day, 7 days/week. Education and Projects Successful applicants will have a named clinical supervisor and be encouraged to maintain a portfolio documenting critical‑care experience. They will take part in audit, education, and quality‑improvement projects. Quality improvement and research Teaching Mastery learning The role allows 4 hours per week (1 day fortnight or 2 half‑days) for dedicated development projects, which may include education, research, or quality‑improvement. Flexibility exists to support other areas of interest. No study‑leave budget is attached to this post. The post is not recognised for training. Applicants must hold Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice and demonstrate completion of the UK Foundation Programme or a CREST certificate.
