Head of Nuclear Medicine

Responsible for the management and operation of the Nuclear Medicine Department and supervision of clinical / practitioner staff within it.
- Responsible for all patient and staff safety aspects of the clinical work including general nuclear medicine, cardiac nuclear medicine and radiopharmacy work.
- Budgetary responsibility for the department
- Perform both Isotope Imaging and in vitro laboratory work as required by service needs.
- Support the Head of Imaging to ensure that the workforce is professionally led and managed in order to develop a highly motivated and empowered workforce creating an environment where everyone can excel.
- Support the Head of Imaging with establishing effective relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring financial targets and cost improvement programmes are delivered to agreed timescales and budget.
- Work with the Head of Imaging in the delivery of the performance standards for the Directorate linked to the annual plan and corporate objectives.
- Plan and implement service improvements and modernise practices within Nuclear Medicine.
- A significant element of the post will be the development of services new to this hospital and closer working with Kettering General Hospital.
Managerial
- Monitor the performance of the Nuclear Medicine department against its agreed objectives using data effectively and be responsible for taking corrective action where performance is not in accordance with objectives.
- Responsible for the provision of Nuclear Medicine services to the Trust and for Radiopharmacy services.
- Support the Head of Imaging to ensure the department formulates and achieves the annual CIP savings target.
- Operate within the Trust’s standing financial instructions.
- Co-operate with the IT services to ensure effective systems for the collection and coding of patient related information that are safe, timely and accurate.
- Hold budgetary responsibility and be the authorised signatory for the department.

Managerial Continued
- Responsible for the collation/production of bids/business cases for the department and the co-ordination of large capital purchases as required in line with the Trust Policy.
- Negotiate with other departments and external agencies regarding established and new service level agreements.
- Manage and supervise clinical/practitioner, A&C and other staff working in Nuclear Medicine, including departmental staff appraisal and mandatory training.
- Actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings with Imaging Physics and Radiotherapy Physics.
- Closely liaise with Nuclear Medicine Physics on all scientific and technical aspects.
- Liaise with associated staff groups, such as Physiologists, Nurses and Clinicians to provide an integrated multidisciplinary Nuclear Medicine department.
- Develop local guidelines and protocols in all aspects of the department, including Nuclear Cardiology, in vitro laboratory work and Radiopharmacy, in collaboration with the clinical Director, Physicists and the lead Pharmacist to cover all aspects of Nuclear Medicine Operations.
- Supervise the clerical and administrative duties in the isotope imaging department including: -1. Following local guidelines when accepting a request for an appointment
2. Patient appointment making, bearing in mind the isotope availability on each day, dispatch of patient instructions and information and organisation of transport
3. Ensuring all necessary patient documents are obtained for the test
4. Appropriate record keeping including computerised records such as the Radiology Information System
- Actively participate in multidisciplinary management arrangement for Nuclear Medicine.
- Organise staffing rotas, including routine imaging, Radiopharmacy preparation and checking, laboratory duties and cover by occasional staff as required, ensuring that experience and training matches the duties required.
