Nuclear Medicine & PET/CT Receptionist

Nuclear Medicine at Northampton General Hospital is a busy and varied department carrying out many different imaging and therapy procedures.

We are looking for receptionists to join our small, friendly team.

The post holder will provide a professional, comprehensive and efficient reception service to patients attending the Nuclear Medicine Department and the Alliance Medical PET/CT scanner.

They will respond to and deal with a variety of booking requests and queries in a timely manner, whether by telephone or in person, ensuring that patients are booked according to clinical priority and in chronological order taking into account both patient choice and the need to ensure that appointment slots are optimised.

You will be punctual, reliable and a good communicator with a conscientious attitude to work. You will work equally well both in a team and under your own initiative.

Experience of nuclear medicine is not essential, however experience of working within a hospital setting is desirable.

The post holder will provide a comprehensive and efficient reception and booking service to patients attending the Nuclear Medicine Department. Additionally, they will provide reception services to the Alliance Medical PET/CT scanner.
They will respond to and deal with a variety of often complex booking requests in a timely manner, whether by telephone or in person, ensuring that patients are booked according to clinical priority and in chronological order taking into account both patients’ choice and the need to ensure that appointment slots are optimised.
The post holder will be expected to manage and prioritise their workload liaising closely with the other staff in the department, attend departmental meetings and contribute to the continual improvement of the Nuclear Medicine service and contribute to the establishment of departmental protocols and work standards.

Greet patients as they arrive in the department and provide information/directions where appropriate.

To demonstrate a high standard of customer care by being courteous and helpful at all times to patients, visitors and staff. Covering of reception desk.

Supervise patients within the Nuclear Medicine department including those who have undergone administration of radioactive substances.

Deal with telephone queries from patients, General Practitioners, consultants and other hospitals, as well as general departmental matters.

To book new patient appointments in accordance with departmental guidelines, contacting patients by telephone where possible if an appointment is to be offered at short notice.

To ensure that the telephone is answered within the agreed time in line with Trust telephone standard.

To change/reschedule appointments at the request of patients or clinicians in line with Trust policy.

To provide patients attending the unit with basic preparation information.

To ensure that all patients are accurately registered on the Radiology Information System (RIS) in line with the “One Patient, One Record” policy and clinical alert documentation such as special needs is completed as necessary.

Liaise with other Departments within the hospital, for example, the wards, other specialties, the waiting list office, medical records, outpatients and information systems and to ensure that the Department interfaces efficiently with them.

Locate and retrieve previous films from filing for appointments and reporting sessions.

Maintain filing and administrative systems (electronic and manual), including, tracing and collating referral correspondence and films. Ensuring that they are promptly dispatched and received.

Opening, processing and sending of mail, photocopying and faxing, as necessary.

Use the Trust’s IPM system as and when required.
