As a Trustee and AI and IT Adviser you will be well placed to influence our development as a health think tank

  • helping us make better use of technology to develop as an organisation
  • while hopefully also influencing wider thinking on the implications of AI for the nation's health.

What are we looking for?

As AI/IT Adviser

  • At least 3 years IT-related experience in the UK
  • At least 1 year of AI-related experience in the UK
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification
  • Evidence of using AI and/or IT to support health research and/or improve organisational effectiveness
  • An interest in the long-term implications of AI for the nation's health

As a Trustee

  • Enthusiasm for our guiding principle that prevention is better than cure
  • The ability to exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member.
  • Willingness to bring energy, expertise and commitment to the role, and potentially broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.
  • Commitment to Nolan's seven principles of public life selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

What will you be doing?

Our guiding principle is that prevention is better than cure.

As a health think tank we have a track record of provided fresh thinking on health issues from Young People's Mental Health to Covid, from Obesity to how best to encourage Physical Activity.

An area we've recently been researching is the potential impact of AI on Mental Health – from social media algorithms and technostress to the impact on employment.

We're also interested in how AI might help us operate more efficiently and effectively, from research to recruitment, which is where your AI and IT experience can make a significant contribution to our work.

As AI/IT Adviser you'll

  • Advise on, and help us keep up-to-date with, the long-term implications of AI for the nation's mental and physical health
  • Help us make use of AI and IT to support our research
  • Help us make use of AI and IT to support our day to day operation, including recruitment, to ensure it as efficient, effective and financially sustainable as possible
  • Suggest any other ways in which AI and IT can support our work

As a Trustee you'll

  • Ensure we continue to operate within our charitable remit (the advancement of health and the prevention of sickness)
  • Review and approve our Annual Report and Accounts
  • Support and provide advice on our work
  • Attend (virtual) Board meetings

You'll be working alongside our current Trustees (who bring a diverse range of expertise), small teams of graduate researchers, and health research partners (including six universities).

We've consciously chosen to operate as a virtual, voluntary organisation. This means you won't need to worry about staffing or premises issues or about fundraising – and there is minimal bureaucracy.
