Treasurer Trustee
The treasurer will work with us as part of our small team. Although our income is very small, we need someone who will oversee its financial matters and report to the Trustees at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation.
What difference will you make?
We are a team of seven trustees and two co-directors. We all work in a voluntary capacity and are passionate about our work. One of us administers the organisation, and although able to add and subtract and deal with the banking, is not a bookkeeper and the accounting is very basic. It will help relieve her of the tensions that can build up in ensuring that the accounts are in good order and that the organisation is solvent. Although our organisation has minimal income at this time, we are working towards increasing our income through training and other consultancy services. It will become essential that the books are properly managed. Although we are all volunteers, the directors also hope to be remunerated for their work at some time.
What are we looking for?
We seek someone with at least three years experience of accounting, but who does not need to have previous experience as a charity treasurer.
The treasurer will be part of our team, and thus we look for someone who values the ideals of our organisation, particularly in relation to gender equality. If the treasurer also recognises the issues that we work on as having value, that would also be appreciated. We also require someone who is able to commit to at least two hours a month, a regular monthly trustee meeting and an annual strategy meeting over two days. After 6 months, the treasurer will discuss with the trustees whether they would like to continue in the role as a trustee.
What will you be doing?
The Treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place, and are appropriate for the charity. Thus, the treasurer will be responsible for overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts, financial statements and financial reports to the Board of Trustees after discussion with the Directors.
The treasurer will ensure that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs and are within the charities objects.
Principal Responsibilities
- Overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts, financial statements and financial reports to the Board of Trustees after discussion with the Directors.
- Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs and are within the charities objects.
- Being instrumental in the development and implementation of appropriate financial, reserves policy and investment policies.
Main duties
- Liaising with the directors about financial matters.
- Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
- Presenting the accounts at trustee meetings and drawing attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way.
- Advising on the financial implications of the organisation's strategic plans.
- Liaising with the charity's auditors where appropriate.
- Liaising with the company secretary and directors to ensure that the charities annual accounts are compliant with the current Chariies SORP.
- Ensuring equipment and assets are adequately maintained and insured.
- Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities.
- Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the organisation.
What will you be doing?
The board is currently made up of seven trustees, all of whom are passionate about gender equality, but not all have experience in tourism. We are on the cusp of change - hopefully growth - and the treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place, and are appropriate for the charity.
Trustees meet monthly and are actively involved in the developmnent of the organisation.
