Treasurer to support Epilepsy charity
Use your skills to shape the governance and secure the future of a dynamic epilepsy support charity.
What difference will you make?
This is a vital role, offering you a real opportunity to shape the financial future of our charity. As part of our board, you will support and guide our financial strategy, helping us achieve our core purpose to provide essential events and resources for those on their epilepsy brain surgery journey. Your financial expertise will directly help us build a strong, sustainable foundation, allowing us to expand our reach and make a lasting difference.
What are we looking for?
We are seeking a passionate finance professional who is committed to helping us build a strong, sustainable organisation. In addition to the legal duties of a trustee, we are particularly interested in candidates who can offer a blend of professional expertise and personal qualities.
We are looking for a Treasurer with
- Financial expertise A background as a finance professional with a sound understanding of financial oversight and management, particularly in the charity sector.
- Strategic thinking The ability to balance risk and opportunity, and to advise on the financial implications of our strategic plan.
- Clear communication The skill to present complex financial information in a clear and engaging way to non-finance specialists.
- Active involvement A willingness to play a hands-on role in areas like forecasting, budgeting, and liaising with external auditors.
We are actively building a board that reflects the community we serve. We strongly encourage applications from people with lived experience of epilepsy or brain surgery, and from individuals from communities underrepresented on charity boards, including those from minority ethnic backgrounds, Disabled people, and LGBTQ+ individuals. We value diverse professional and personal pathways.
Qualities and attributes we are looking for
- Commitment A willingness to dedicate the necessary time and effort to contribute meaningfully to our strategic development.
- Collaboration An ability to work effectively as part of a collective board, bringing constructive challenge and a collaborative spirit.
- Strategic thinking The capacity to contribute to high-level discussions and help set the long-term direction of the charity.
- Empathy A deep understanding of and compassion for our beneficiaries and their experiences.
You do not need to have served as a trustee or treasurer before - we're committed to providing a full induction and ongoing support to help you grow into the role. However, it is essential that you bring a solid understanding of the UK charity landscape, including the financial and regulatory context in which charities operate.
This position would suit someone looking to build board-level and governance experience while contributing their financial expertise to help shape Brain Buddy's future.
What will you be doing?
As Brain Buddy transitions into an independent charity, our inaugural Board of Trustees is beginning to take shape — bringing together Neurologists, a Brain Surgeon, and professionals in HR and Operations.
We are now seeking a Treasurer Trustee with financial expertise to help guide our financial strategy and ensure strong governance. This role will be central to overseeing our financial health, supporting budgeting and reporting, and helping us build a sustainable foundation for growth. Your insight will be key to ensuring transparency, accountability, and long-term resilience.
