London, Greater London, United Kingdom Motorway Full time £60,000 - £120,000 per year

About Motorway
Motorway is the UK's fastest-growing used car marketplace – our award winning, online-only platform connects private car sellers with over 7,500 verified dealers nationwide, who compete to offer the best price. Founded in 2017, our technology makes the process refreshingly easy, earning us an 'Excellent' Trustpilot rating with over 70,000 reviews. We're not just building a platform; we're changing how people sell cars.

Backed by leading investors like Index Ventures and ICONIQ Growth, and following a successful $190 million funding round, we're on a mission to transform the used car market.

About The Role
We are looking for a Lead Product Manager to join our Seller team to drive the strategic direction of our seller experience. This isn't just about moving conversion metrics. You'll be transforming the entire experience of selling what's typically someone's most prized possession after their house. This role combines deep consumer-facing product expertise with a strong track record in growth to create experiences that serve our customers and drive significant business impact. We are looking for somebody who has shipped consumer products at scale that people love to use, while also mentoring and elevating other product managers.

What you will do:

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and communicate a compelling product vision, strategy and roadmap for Motorway's seller experience, aligned with company objectives and grounded in self-generated evidence, using rigorous research and experimentation to validate strategic directions
  • Be seen as a thought leader within Motorway on the seller experience and conversion. Influence product strategy beyond your immediate area, contributing to company-wide product decisions
  • Drive business Impact: Develop and own specific revenue/growth metrics and demonstrate how you are driving not just impact for Motorway but also creating significant value for our customers
  • Make your product team 2x more effective, not 2x busier
  • Place 3-5 big strategic bets per year that could each be company-changing wins
  • See through the hundreds of good ideas to identify the greatest product opportunities (and explain why)
  • Mentor and coach other product managers, helping them develop their skills and advance their careers
  • Shape product management best practices and frameworks across the organization

Execution & Delivery

  • Lead cross-functional teams of engineers, designers, data scientists, and other specialists. Structure problems, so your team produces breakthrough work, not incremental iterations
  • Drive product development from concept through launch, ensuring quality and customer impact for both web and app
  • Rapidly prototype and validate ideas through "vibe coding" - creating quick, functional prototypes to test hypotheses and communicate vision
  • Obsess about the data and customer delight. Use and generate data to drive deep understanding and to craft compelling storytelling around your work.
  • Make complex tradeoff decisions balancing user needs, technical constraints, and business priorities
  • Establish rigorous experimentation frameworks and data-driven decision making processes. Run experiments that produce learning even when they fail
  • Champion a culture of continuous experimentation, teaching others how to design and interpret experiments effectively

Cross-functional working

  • Collaborate across the org on strategic initiatives and quarterly planning
  • Brilliantly communicate the what, the how and the why and produce crisp, compelling data-led documentation

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in product management, with a proven track record of shipping products that moved meaningful business metrics, especially conversion, within a world-class B2C product both web and app
  • Results-oriented, adept at delivering projects quickly while adapting to new information/feedback to challenge and validate assumptions
  • Experienced at leading or mentoring and developing other product managers and influencing product strategy at an organisational level
  • Deep experimentation expertise: Demonstrated mastery of A/B testing, multivariate testing, and causal inference. Ability to design sophisticated experiments, interpret complex results, and teach experimentation best practices to others
  • Can demonstrate previous exceptional quantitative reasoning and analytical skills, leveraging strong mathematical concepts to model complex product scenarios, optimise metrics and KPIs, conduct sophisticated A/B test analyses, build financial forecasts and ROI projections, and translate data-driven insights into strategic product decisions that drive measurable business outcomes
  • AI prototyping and "vibe coding" skills: On top of latest AI trends, possibilities and tooling. Hands-on ability to create functional prototypes quickly and experienced with AI tooling.
  • Strategic discovery skills: Proven ability to develop product strategies grounded in self-generated evidence through user research, data analysis, and experimentation rather than assumptions
  • Ability to zoom between pixel-level details and quarterly planning without losing coherence
  • Excellent communicator and collaborator, demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams. Experience influencing without authority and driving consensus among senior stakeholders
  • A passion for product management as a discipline and a drive to continuously iterate and improve ways of working
  • Self-starter and proactive individual who loves to collaborate, with a strong work ethic and a can-do attitude
  • A curious mindset and ability to quickly develop strong domain knowledge, excited about changing the car industry and tech trends

Benefits

  • A competitive salary
  • Annual learning budget - with your learning budget, you can pay for learning experiences to support your progression.
  • BUPA health insurance
  • Discounted dental through BUPA
  • Discounted gym membership through BUPA
  • OnHand volunteering membership and one paid volunteering day per year
