Controls Senior Manager - 6 Month Fixed Term Contract

This is a great job for someone who has good industry knowledge, and a technical specialist on operational risk, ideally in financial services.

A bit about the job:

We are looking for a motivated individual to support the first line with controls assurance, bringing heightened confidence in the effectiveness of our control environment. This role involves making key decisions related to controls, often complex and with potential implications for reporting to Executive and Board levels. You will collaborate closely with Governance and Controls partners to deliver global control changes driven by strategic projects, while supporting your team and line manager in meeting critical deadlines. You'll provide challenge and guidance to Heads of Function to embed a strong risk and controls culture across teams, and partner with the business to maintain an effective controls framework—covering issue identification, resolution, controls testing, risk assessment, and SOP governance. Maintaining strong relationships is essential, even when navigating difficult conversations. You'll also be responsible for timely issue identification, tracking remediation processes, and drafting clear updates for stakeholders.

Skills and experience we're looking for:

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant (e.g., ACA/ACCA) and/or industry equivalent (e.g., IMC)

  • Strong understanding of risks and controls and our ORCM framework

  • Demonstrable project management skills to ensure all internal and external reporting deadlines are met. This includes detailed planning and allocation of resources and taking necessary actions to ensure milestones are achieved.

  • Excellent influencing style with senior management as well as all levels within the business.

  • Experience of successful reporting and MI production.

What you'll get for this role:

  • Generous pension scheme - Aviva will contribute up to 14%, depending on what you put in

  • Eligibility for annual performance bonus

  • Family friendly parental and carer's leave

  • Generous holiday entitlement plus bank holidays with the option to buy/sell up to 5 additional days

  • Up to 40% discount for Aviva products

  • Aviva-funded Private Medical Benefit to help you get expert support when you need it

  • Brilliant flexible benefits including electric cars

  • Aviva Matching Share Plan and Save As You Earn scheme

  • 21 volunteering hours per year

Aviva is for everyone:

We're inclusive and welcome everyone – we want applications from all backgrounds and experiences. Excited but not sure you tick every box? Even if you don't, we would still encourage you to apply. We also consider all forms of flexible working, including part time and job shares.

We flex locations, hours and working patterns to suit our customers, business, and you. Most of our people are smart working –spending around 50% of their time in our offices every week - combining the benefits of flexibility, with time together with colleagues.
