Job Summary Applications are invited for this exciting opportunity to join the anaesthetic team of 64 consultants and 8 SAS doctors at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. The department is a dynamic, forward‑thinking and innovative department covering a wide range of specialties. We deliver anaesthesia across four sites: the Royal Cornwall Hospital, St Michael’s Hospital, West Cornwall Hospital and St Austell Surgical Hub. We are looking for a General Anaesthesia Consultant with an interest in paediatrics. The Hospital is a major district general hospital, trauma unit, vascular centre and comprehensive cancer service, providing over 30,000 anaesthetics per year, over 4,000 births and more than 750 beds. It has 27 operating theatres, anaesthesia delivery areas, 18 critical‑care beds and plans for further expansion. Government funding supports a new Women and Children’s extension, including obstetric theatres, two paediatric theatres and two additional theatres. The department provides care in line with the Trust’s key values of Respect, Compassion, Honesty and Teamwork. Responsibilities Establish anaesthesia as integral to the peri‑operative outcomes of paediatric surgery. Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of anaesthesia. Share responsibility with colleagues for the day‑to‑day management of the anaesthetic department. Teach and train anaesthetists in training, resident doctors and medical students where applicable. Ensure active participation in continuing medical education (CME). Actively participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit. Participate in quality improvement, data analysis, information presentation and service development as appropriate. Attend care group and directorate business, operational and governance meetings as appropriate. Fulfil duties of the weekly timetable, including any out‑of‑hours responsibilities. Deliver pre‑operative assessment sessions. The Royal Cornwall Hospital is situated in the cathedral city of Truro, at the centre of the Cornish Peninsula.
