Main duties of the job To establish Anaesthesia as integral to the peri‑operative outcomes of paediatric surgery. Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of anaesthesia. To share, with colleagues, responsibility for the day‑to‑day management of the anaesthetic department. Teaching and training of anaesthetists in training / resident doctors and medical students where applicable. To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME). To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit. To participate in quality improvement, data analysis and information presentation, and service development, as appropriate. To attend care group and directorate business, operational and governance meetings as appropriate. Fulfil duties of weekly timetable including any out‑of‑hours responsibilities. Deliver pre‑operative assessment sessions. About us The Royal Cornwall Hospital is situated in the Cathedral city of Truro in the centre of the Cornish Peninsula. Person Specification Qualifications Essential GMC registration GMC Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining CCT (or equivalent) in anaesthetics at time of interview. FRCA or equivalent Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a broad range of problems in anaesthesia. Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients. Paediatric anaesthesia in accordance with Royal College expectation of Adult General Anaesthetist with Certificate of Completion of Training. Desirable APLS Management of Multi‑Disciplinary Teams Experience Essential Paediatric anaesthesia at advanced level, e.g. a minimum of 6 months Stage 3 Special Interest Area (SIA) in paediatric anaesthesia. Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a broad range of problems in anaesthesia. Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients. Experienced in clinical audit and clinical governance and the benefits of how this improves the quality of care provided to patients and ensuring this is embedded in clinical practice. Emergency CEPOD and trauma experience. Ultrasound‑guided venous access and regional anaesthesia.
