Job Summary Applications are invited for an exciting opportunity to join the anaesthetic team of 64 consultants and 8 SAS doctors at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. The department is dynamic, forward‑thinking and innovative, covering a wide range of specialties across four sites: Royal Cornwall Hospital, St Michael's Hospital, West Cornwall Hospital and St Austell Surgical Hub. The Trust provides extensive anaesthetic services (over 30,000 cases per year) and offers a supportive environment for professional development in paediatric anaesthesia. Responsibilities Establish anaesthesia as integral to the peri‑operative outcomes of paediatric surgery. Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of anaesthesia. Share responsibility for day‑to‑day management of the anaesthetic department with colleagues. Teach and train anaesthetists in training, resident doctors and medical students where applicable. Ensure active participation in continuing medical education (CME). Participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit. Engage in quality improvement, data analysis, service development and presentation of information. Attend care group and directorate meetings, as appropriate. Fulfill duties of the weekly timetable, including out‑of‑hours responsibilities. Deliver pre‑operative assessment sessions. Qualifications Essential GMC registration. GMC Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining CCT (or equivalent) in anaesthetics at the time of interview. FRCA or equivalent. Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a broad range of problems in anaesthesia. Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients. Paediatric anaesthesia in accordance with Royal College expectations of an Adult General Anaesthetist with Certificate of Completion of Training. Desirable APLS. Management of multi‑disciplinary teams. Experience Essential Paediatric anaesthesia at an advanced level, e.g. a minimum of 6 months Stage 3 Special Interest Area (SIA) in paediatric anaesthesia. Expertise in emergency CEPOD, trauma, ultrasound‑guided venous access and regional anaesthesia. Experience in clinical audit, clinical governance and embedding quality improvement in practice. Desirable Specialist expertise in paediatric transfer medicine, paediatric intensive care medicine, professional management and leadership.
