These posts are an ideal steppingstone fortrainees between their FY2 and Specialty training posts and offer opportunitiesfor applicants to develop skills and experience in other areas such as medicaleducation and quality/service improvement.
Our posts combine education and careerdevelopment with practical patient-facing care.
These posts are also suitablefor trainees who wish to build their portfolios before applying for nationalcore training rotations.
The post holders will be eligible forcompletion of certificate of equivalence of core training.
This certificate will allow trainees to applyfor national specialty training programmes (STR) of their choice.
Each post holder will be assigned aneducational supervisor and are expected to achieve all core trainingcompetencies set out by the ISCP.Trainees will be appointed at CT1 level and may be eligible to continuefor a second year at CT2 level subject to a satisfactory Annual Review ofCompetency Progression (ARCP).
Main duties of the job
These posts are to commence in August 2025 for a period of 12 months and may be extendible to 24 months subject to satisfactory ARCP.You will need to have successfully completed the FY2 year of training and worked within the NHS for a minimum of 6 months in any medical or surgical speciality including general practice.Applicants will need to provide evidence of completion of foundation training or alternative certificate on foundation competencies.
You will be based at Pinderfields hospital in Wakefield with potential peripheral sessions at Dewsbury District Hospital and Pontefract Hospital.
You will be expected to work within the following surgical specialties: Urology, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics or Otolaryngology (ENT) depending on your rotation.
The post holders will participate on a full shift rota.They will work in collaboration with and under the direction of the Consultants and other members of the teams in the day-to-day management of patients within the service.Duties include ward rounds, assisting the consultants and senior trainees in the operating theatre, undertaking the pre- and post-operative care of patients on the wards, attending out-patient clinics and attending to referrals in the Emergency Department.
