Specialty Doctor in Wakefield Learning Disabilities Service

(Block 9, Fieldhead Hospital, WF1 3SP)

Permanent, full time, 10 Programmed Activities per week plus on-call

(part time may be considered)

South West Yorkshire Partnership Foundation Trust are recruiting for a Specialty Doctor to join the Wakefield Learning Disabilities Service based at Fieldhead Hospital, Wakefield. This role plays a vital part in ensuring our patients receive the care that they need and will be an integral role within the Wakefield Learning Disabilities Service.

Person SpecificationQualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification from an institution listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
  • Experience of working in other medical specialties for example: general medicine, geriatric medicine, Accident and Emergency/Casualty.
  • Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit, and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations, and publications.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Psychiatry (e.g. Diploma/Masters degree or higher).
Professional and personal attributes
  • Demonstrate emotional intelligence, leadership, and team working skills.
  • Able to work efficiently in a respectful and polite manner with patients/staff/carers and families.
  • Adhere to the principles and spirit of the Equality Act 2010.
Academic skills and lifelong learning
  • Able to deliver undergraduate teaching and training.
  • Participate in Continuous Professional Development.
  • Participate in the Mandatory Training requirements of the Trust.
  • Commitment to annual Appraisal and Revalidation.
Physical attributes
  • Smart professional appearance.
Experience
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • A minimum of 4 years full time or equivalent in postgraduate training in the UK, or equivalent EEA training. At least 2 years training in Clinical Psychiatry or demonstrable achievement of the necessary equivalent experience and competencies.
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 6 months of appointment.
  • LD, ADHD, ASD, CAMHS, OPS, Liaison, in-patient and community experience.
Clinical Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • Good clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
  • Excellent knowledge in specialty.
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience, including learning disability.
  • Peer-reviewed publications/participation in research.
