The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Otolaryngology (ENT) service covers three hospital sites, Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury. The service provides inpatient lists at our Pinderfields site, day case lists on the Pinderfields and Pontefract sites and clinics on all three sites.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the post will include:

  1. Provision of care with responsibility for the management of patients with acute and chronic conditions including complex cases.
  2. Referral of patients to other specialties as appropriate.
  3. Involvement in specialty and cross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings.
  4. Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate.
  5. Active involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities.

Job responsibilities

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is pleased to announce the development and introduction of these new roles. The posts will be a combination of service delivery and educational input within the specialty.

These posts are not recognised UK training posts. However, the post-holders will have a named supervisor and be supported in undertaking scheduled educational opportunities within the Trust and specialties.

The Service Role

From a clinical perspective these posts will participate in the cross-site senior trainee rota. The senior trainee rota is compliant with the 2016 resident doctor contract averaging 48 hours per week.

Duties will be based primarily on our Pinderfields Hospital site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites.

Terms & Conditions and Tenure

Employment will be as a MYDoc Registrar on Trust Terms and Conditions of Service.

Appointment as a MYDoc Registrar is intended to be for a maximum three-year period as part of an individual development programme for the Doctor. The initial tenure of the post will be no less than 1 year with a strong potential to extend to a maximum of three years. The offer will be dependent on service requirements and confirmed at the conditional offer stage.

Pay Scale

These roles are equivalent to a doctor on specialty training programmes and will be paid on the equivalent pay scale. The salary scale commences at £61,825 per annum.

Appraisal and Revalidation

This post is not recognised for training and brings with it an obligation to engage with the process of revalidation on an annual basis.

All our Trust appointed doctors are required to engage positively with appraisal and revalidation. The Trust has procedures that comply with national recommendations.

  • Please state full GMC registration.
  • Full GMC Registration with licence to practise ensuring IELTS and PLAB results are valid for registration.
Management Skills
  • Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving.

Personal Attributes
  • Flexibility.
  • Willingness to provide and learn all aspects of hospitals internal systems and processes and adhere to local policies.
  • Willingness to participate in further education and audit.
  • Physically able to carry out the duties as specified in the job description and ability to evidence competencies.
  • Disclosure + Barring Service (DBS) Clearance.
  • Has personal insight into own strengths and weaknesses.
  • Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust, the Unit and its services.
Experience
  • Have completed at least four years of full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two years of which will be in a Specialty training programme in ENT.
  • Ability to work autonomously in general and subspecialty clinics.
  • Have at least one year's NHS UK experience.
Qualifications
  • Medical Degree from recognised medical school and acceptable to the GMC.
  • ATLS certificate.
  • ALS certificate.
  • Audit and case presentations.
