Deputy Director Healthcare Public HealthThis is an exciting opportunity to join NHS England to work with the Regional Public Health team for the South East Region. This is a full time 10 Programmed Activities per week/ 37.5 hours appointment to the terms and conditions of service for doctors in public health medicine and community health service and hospital medical and dental staff England and Wales or on NHS Agenda for Change terms and conditions of service if from a non-medical background (Band 9).
The salary for this post will be to the point of the consultant medical salary scale for England appropriate to your years of seniority or Agenda for Change band 9 if from a non-medical background. For further information please see NHS Terms and Conditions of Service Handbook.
This is a Non-Reserved post under the Civil Service Nationality Rules and is therefore open to UK, Commonwealth and European Economic Area (EEA) Nationals and certain non-EEA members.
Main duties of the jobThe role of Deputy Director in Healthcare Public Health for the South East Region is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of public health professionals working to improve health by delivering evidence-based public health advice. The Deputy Director for Healthcare Public Health provides local leadership of the NHS healthcare public health system, on behalf of the Regional Director.
The Deputy Director contributes to improving and protecting the public health through: championing prevention and reducing demand in healthcare, improving efficiency and value in healthcare, and identifying and reducing inequalities.
The postholder will be an experienced leader adept at working with colleagues in different parts of the health system and beyond, building partnerships to improve health. Leading a team of ~13 people, including six consultants in public health, the post-holder will develop overall strategy, identify future challenges and promote good relationships between NHSE, ICBs, local authorities, OHID and UKHSA. The work will include supporting the 'left shift' of NHS services from sickness to prevention and from hospital to home. The work will also cover providing high quality support on dental public health, specialised commissioning, and health and justice.

Person SpecificationQualificationsIn line with legislation, inclusion in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List or inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists at the point of application.If included in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in a specialty other than public health medicine/dental public health, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health practice.Public health specialty registrar applicants who are not yet on the GMC Specialist Register, UKPHR register or GDC Specialist List in dental public health must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry to a register at the date of interview.If an applicant is UK trained in Public Health, they must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
