Job summary Introducing our new Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and Acute Assessment Unit (AAU).
We are thrilled to announce the opening our new purpose built SDEC unit in April 2025, alongside the rebranding of our Emergency Floor as an AAU.
These units are designed to enhance patient care and streamline emergency services.
Their function is to provide quick, efficient and effective care to patients in urgent need of medical attention.
Same Day Emergency Care: Our SDEC allows patients to be assessed, diagnosed and treated all within the same day, minimizing hospital admissions and ensuring fast, high quality care.
Acute Assessment Unit: currently known as the Emergency Floor, the AAU offers an immediate and thorough evaluation of acutely ill patients, allowing us to quickly identify needs and create an individual plan of care.

Main duties of the job Are you an experienced band 5 nurse with considerable acute care experience, with current NMC registration, who is ready to step up to a Band 6 role?
Are you currently a Band 6 nurse with urgent and emergency experience looking to work in a different and dynamic environment?
Exciting opportunity to join our senior nursing team within the SDEC and AAU.
The SDEC will have 16 care spaces and a large airy waiting area.
We will provide same day emergency care between the hours of 07:00 - 22:00 seven days a week.
We are able to offer in-house training and external courses to our nurses, supported by our practice development team and the introduction of the Acute Nursing Competency Framework.
As well as working as a clinically in our SDEC and AAU, our senior nurses co-ordinate patient flow and manage patient safety alongside displaying compassionate and inclusive leadership skills.

Job description Job responsibilities Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse in SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care) and AAU (Acute Admission Unit) A Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse in SDEC and AAU plays a vital role in supporting the unit's leadership and ensuring high standards of patient care.
Heres a detailed overview of the responsibilities and expectations for this position: Key Responsibilities Clinical Leadership: Assist the Sister/Charge Nurse in the management of the unit, ensuring effective delivery of care.
Oversee clinical practice within the unit, supporting nursing staff in delivering high-quality patient care.
Patient Care Management: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
Ensure timely and appropriate interventions for patients, particularly in emergency situations.
Team Coordination: Facilitate effective communication within the multidisciplinary team to enhance patient outcomes.
Support and mentor junior staff, including nurses and healthcare assistants, fostering a positive learning environment.
Operational Responsibilities: Assist in the management of daily operational activities, including patient flow and resource allocation.
Participate in the development and implementation of policies and protocols to improve service delivery.
Quality Assurance: Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with healthcare standards and regulations.
Monitor and evaluate clinical practices, addressing any issues that arise.
Education and Training: Engage in continuous professional development and support the training of new staff and students.
Lead training sessions as necessary to promote best practices within the unit.

Person Specification Professional registration Essential NMC registration with current PIN Experience/Qualifications Essential Substantial post registration experience in an acute hospital setting Significant post registration experience in an Acute Assessment Area/Emergency Department/SDEC Educated to degree level or equivalent Mentorship course or equivalent Evidence of post registration experience Extensive knowledge on the management of acutely ill patients Desirable Leadership qualification ALS Provider Post registration qualification in acute care Skills Essential Management of all types of venous access devices Competent in Venepuncture and Cannulation Intravenous drug administration Interpretation of diagnostic information, inclusive of ECG and ABG interpretation Defibrillation Able to work autonomously Ability to communicate complex information Able to make decisions in unique situations and circumstances Desirable Evidence of participation in audit People Management and Development Essential Ability to lead and motivate a team Innovative Act as a positive role model Desirable Experience in undertaking appraisals Experience in supporting staff with their personal and professional development Specific requirements Essential Experience with patient administration systems - inclusive of admissions, discharges and transfers Desirable Experience with Careflow Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Essential Evidence of having championed diversity in previous roles (as appropriate to role).
