The  Principal Mechanical Design Engineer  will be part of the Mechanical Engineering team and will be involved in supporting technical changes to existing company products (i.e Defence and Weapons Systems).
The  Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will be involved in the Mechanical Design, Tests and Trials and will have the opportunity to shape the next generation of defence/weapons platforms and future technologies .
Key Duties and Responsibilities for the Principal Mechanical Design Engineer Lead the development of solutions to technical issues as a member of an integrated project team, reporting to Technical Leads and directly to the customer.
Developing design solutions based on customer requirements, validating, and verifying through the design process.
Review and check design work and technical reports, providing help and direction to less experienced engineers.
Carrying out technical analysis and investigations and preparing reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability.
Planning, delivering, and monitoring assigned projects or work packages, ensuring that requirements are delivered to plan.
Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications Required for the Principal Mechanical Design Engineer Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline, or a high level of experience within an engineering environment, whilst having experience writing and reviewing technical reports and specifications.
Design experience in a production and/or prototyping environment, finite element analysis (FEA) software to perform structural/stress analysis, and product data management (PDM) tools to configuration manage data.
Working knowledge of technical office processes, standards, and standard instructions.
Experience with the full Product and Engineering Life Cycle.
Familiarity with engineering drawing standards and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
Working experience with CAD software (CREO or Similar) & PLM software (Teamcenter or similar).
Able to achieve BPSS Security Clearance and SC Clearance in the Future due to the Products and Systems that will be involved.
