Job summary We are seeking a locum consultant paediatric endocrinologist to work with us in the Paediatric Endocrinology service at Birmingham Children's Hospital.
This post is a fixed term 12 months locum post to cover for maternity leave.
Candidates are expected to be tertiary trained in paediatric endocrinology & diabetes and have an excellent, practical knowledge of paediatric diabetes management.
Training and experience in metabolic bone disease is desirable, but not essential.
SUMMARY OF POST This is a locum tertiary endocrine consultant NHS post undertaking 10 PA's per week.
The post holder will join a busy and progressive team delivering paediatric diabetes and endocrinology services within Birmingham, the West Midlands and beyond.
This post will comprise 10 Programmed Activities per week including oncall; PAs of Direct Clinical Care and PAs for Supporting Professional Activities.
Main duties of the job This post is to provide cover for a 12 month period of maternity leave.
The primary purpose of this post is to provide endocrine, bone and diabetes clinical services for outpatients, inpatients and support our existing sub-specialty services.
Care provision includes supporting all aspects of intensified diabetes management, including insulin pump management (CSII), education sessions and HbA1c target clinics with extra support for children and young people.
There is recognition within the department and desire to be innovative and implement new practices to ensure our diabetes and endocrine care continues to compare to the best standards in Europe.

Job description Job responsibilities The appointee is expected to be tertiary trained in paediatric endocrinology & diabetes and have an excellent, practical knowledge of paediatric diabetes management and education including dietary management and CSII therapy as well as advanced glucose monitoring technologies.
Candidates with specialist experience in paediatric endocrinology and diabetes within 6 months of acquiring CCT via "portfolio pathway" will also be considered.
Clinically, they will share in the provision of the outpatient service for Endocrinology and Diabetes and provide inpatient advice, as well as regional and supra-regional advice when requested.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Medical Degree from a recognised University CCT in Paediatrics and training in Endocrinology to tertiary level as defined by BSPED, or shall have equivalent experience and competencies Child protection Level 3 training Basic Life Support Desirable Higher Degree (MD/PhD etc) APLS Eligibility Essential Full GMC registration GMC specialist registration (or within 6 months of obtaining CCT) in Paediatrics and Endocrinology (or recognised equivalent if outside the UK) Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice Eligibility to live and work in the UK Research/Training Essential Significant experience in support undergraduate learning Supportive attitude Willing collaborator Research and Audit experience Desirable Good track record in Clinical/Translational Research GCP Training Attendance at Training the Trainers teaching course First/last author scientific publications Language skill Essential All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are competent to enable effective communication with patients and colleagues Has understanding of the importance of communication within a clinical setting Personal skills/abilities and attributes Essential Judgement: Capacity to operate effectively under pressure and remain objective in highly emotive or pressurised situations.
