Have you an interest in paediatric diabetes and looking for a new challenge? The Diabetes team at Birmingham Children’s Hospital is seeking a clinical support worker to join one of the UK’s largest paediatric diabetes units, serving over 350 children.

The post holder will support Team members in providing care to children, young people and their families affected by Type 1, Type 2 and rare diabetes. It is expected that the post holder will develop their knowledge and understanding of the complex nature and medical requirements in managing these conditions to facilitate the delivery of support work under the supervision of a registered nurse or practitioner. The post holder will be supported to complete the necessary competencies required of their specific job role.

Provide orientation of the patient and family to the clinical environment.

Contribute to the assessment of care.

Organise and implement planned care once agreed with the supervising registered nurse/Dietitian.

All care to be provided in partnership with parents/ carer, within the limitations of the role.

Undertak e tasks and procedures in which competence has been demonstrated and recorded, specific to the care environment in which the post holder is employed.

Provide a wide variety of play and recreational activities to meet the specific needs of the infant, child and young person in hospital.

Partake in patient risk assessments, as required.

Contribute to the education of parents and carers, in partnership with the supervising registered nurse/dietitian.
