Job summary NHS Oldham talking therapies is currently undertaking research into the utility and effectiveness of the Dream Completion Technique (DCT) at step 3.
The DCT research is a randomised Control Trial to evaluate the effectiveness of a psychological intervention for treating nightmares within a UK Primary Care NHS talking therapies Service The research is in collaboration with Dr Justin Havens and Professor Mark Blagrove at the University of Swansea.
The role of the research assistant would be to enroll participants, consent, collect data and liaise with the University and the chief investigator.
They would be required to prepare reports on the progress of the research and produce minutes of meetings related to the project.
Main duties of the job Ensure that research procedures (including consent processes, interventions and follow up) are carried out according to the approved protocol and the UK policy framework for health and social care research.
Provide complex research related information to research participants when taking informed consent for the research study or carrying out a research procedure.
To be aware of the psychological/emotional needs of the patient/carer, responding and reporting appropriately.
To maintain confidentiality of information regarding patients, families and carers at all times.
Communicate and liaise effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary and research teams within and external to the Trust, both verbally and in writing, providing and receiving complex or sensitive information.
Liaise with the Chief Investigator, Site Lead, and Project Manager in regards to the on-going support and feasibility of the project.
Maintain and provide up-to-date project and recruitment information for the project which includes consent of patients, completion of case report forms and routinely collected data.
To manage and prioritise own workload and tasks, working to appropriate deadlines and targets set.
Actively promote the research study and any other research opportunities to staff and services.

Where required, exercise professional judgement to assess patient eligibility for participation in research projects.
Provide complex research related information to research participants when taking informed consent for the research study or carrying out a research procedure.
Assist participants with the completion of questionnaires or interventions as appropriate, in consideration of individual need, using prioritisation and delegation skills To be aware of the psychological/emotional needs of the patient/carer, responding and reporting appropriately.
Utilise clinical skills to assess patient condition and clinical situations reporting as necessary adverse and serious adverse events and breaches of trial / study protocol as per individual requirements.
To maintain confidentiality of information regarding patients, families and carers at all times.
Communicate and liaise effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary and research teams within and external to the Trust, both verbally and in writing, providing and receiving complex or sensitive information.

Present at conferences, study days and meetings when required.
Person Specification Education/Qualifications Essential Relevant health related degree relating to care of people with mental health problems Desirable Have trained or be willing to undertake training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Short courses and experience to post graduate diploma level Experience Essential Experience of working in a professional capacity with people with mental health issues.
Desirable Previous research experience Demonstrable experience working in an NHS environment Experience of carrying out patient and public involvement (PPI) consultation activities Interviewing in clinical settings Knowledge Essential Knowledge of office software packages, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access Knowledge and appreciation of governance, risk and confidentiality issues Desirable Knowledge of NHS Research Governance procedures and the Research Governance Framework Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods Skills/Abilities Essential Ability to analyse and interpret written and numerical data Ability to collate information and produce written reports Able to organise and prioritise own workload, work under pressure and to tight deadlines Use of initiative and ability to work under minimal supervision Ability to produce accurate, well presented work with a quick turnaround Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of staff Excellent attention to detail Desirable Ability to perform phlebotomy
