Research Project Officer
The University of Salford has an exciting new opportunity for a Research project officer
We are looking for a motivated, organised and passionate research project officer to ensure the operational delivery of the NAPICU Children and young people intensive mental health services ( N-CYPIMHS). This part-time three-year post will support an exciting new national research project, funded by National Association of Psychiatric Intensive Care (NAPICU), generating new evidence, intelligence and insights that will help improve services and outcomes for children and young people experiencing serious and complex mental health needs.
The number of children and young people who need intensive and/or emergency mental health care provision to resolve acute psychiatric disturbance appears to be increasing. There are many known challenges to provision of effective child-centred care in tertiary mental health services and little research undertaken in this field. There is an urgent need for a systematic understanding of clinical need and effective approaches to address the need, upon which national policy frameworks and future service provision can be based.
This is an exciting opportunity to operationalise a unique project which will include a programme of national stakeholder and service user engagement nationally and a mixed methods research design to establish a comprehensive understanding of how care provision for children and young people experiencing acute and complex mental health needs is organised, implemented and used in the UK. Identifying barriers and enablers to effective child-led intensive mental health care provision and drawing out implications for improving standards for future design and delivery of intensive therapeutic mental health care for young people.
Please note that the interviews for this opportunity will be held on 21st November
Key responsibilities
The post holder will work with a team of academic and industry experts and a full time industrial PhD student to ensure the delivery of a project developing the evidence base to improve quality of care and health outcomes for children and young people in tertiary mental health services.
The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operational delivery of the N-CYPIMHS project. Your work will involve a mixture of engaging with a variety of external stakeholders and mental health practitioners and supporting the research team with the coordination, implementation and management of a mixed methods research study, including recruitment and data collection within health care services. You will work closely with the project lead to ensure effective project administration and governance, and dissemination of learning and findings throughout the life course of the project, and to support the research team with recruitment, and data collection activities.
You will bring to the role experience of project management, and knowledge of the research process. You will have highly developed communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, as well as the ability to work to deadlines calmly under pressure, with close attention to detail and a flexible approach to changing priorities.
This post is two days per week (0.4FTE), which can be worked flexibly in terms of working hours enabling our colleagues to accommodate work life balance.
