Research Assistant

Unitemps are recruiting for an exciting opportunity to work with the School of Health and Society at the University of Salford as part time Research Assistant.
The University of Salford is working on a project which aims to develop a children’s advocacy centre within a primary school in Greater Manchester. It involves the school, Manchester City Council and other stakeholders including members of the Children and Young Peoples nursing team at The University of Salford. It is a collaboration with the community and the children and young people (CYP) themselves to help co-design the advocacy centre that would best meet the needs of the community in a trauma informed approach.
Following the collection of ideas, and perceptions from the children, analysis of the collected data and clarification of the findings, recommendations will be made surrounding the needs of the advocacy centre and its future development. Collaborations with sectors (such as health, education, law enforcement, social care, charities and voluntary groups) will be initiated to provide the services identified as a need, e.g., foodbanks, mental health services for families, and information about future careers and opportunities, helping them to reach their potential.
The research assistant, appointed to work on this project, will support the analysis stage of the project and subsequent report writing. The data, collected by the school as part of the normal curriculum in what the school call a “sunshine day” (a wellbeing day) takes the form of pictures/drawings/graffiti boards and written wishes (from a wishes tree), which allowed all age groups within the school to express what they want from the advocacy centre. From this data, themes will be extracted which will require further analysis, against the context of previous research.
The themes that are identified will provide insight into the needs and wants of the children for the further development of the Advocacy Centre and its future ongoing co-production. The initial presentation of these findings will be in the form of a report to the stakeholder partners in order to provide clear evidence-based recommendations of what the advocacy centre should look like.
The data will be analysed thematically by a team of researchers of which you will be part.
All researchers/analysts will be briefed prior to the analytical process by Prof Andrew Rowland.
The post therefore requires experience of qualitative data analysis and report writing.
The Research Assistant will support the delivery of a collaborative project called _The development of a novel children’s advocacy centre within a primary school in Greater Manchester. A service development._ This role, which is funded by the University of Salford, will support the analysis stage of the project and the subsequent report writing. The data will take the form of pictures/drawings/graffiti boards and written wishes (from a wishes tree). The post requires experience of analysis of qualitative data (experience of visual data analysis important but not essential) and report writing.
