About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our team at Mill Lodge, a 5-bedded learning disabilities nursing respite unit in Norwich. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract for maternity cover.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will provide support to our nursing staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care to individuals with learning disabilities, multiple physical disabilities, and complex healthcare needs. The post holder will work as part of a team to promote independence, choice, and empowerment for our patients.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide support to nursing staff to ensure the delivery of patient care, including assisting with activities of daily living, monitoring and recording clinical observations, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Assist patients with nutritional requirements, including artificial feeding and assisting individuals with significant dysphagia issues.
  • Support individuals to access community facilities, as required.
  • Participate in the risk assessment and review process, and maintain good relationships with other disciplines to maximise patient care provision.
  • Contribute to the induction of new staff and students, and assist with data collection and audit as required.

  • Has a strong commitment to supporting individuals with learning disabilities to be as independent as they are able to.
  • Has effective communication skills, including non-verbal skills.
  • Is able to work under pressure in an ever-changing environment.
  • Has a proactive approach to personal development and is committed to embedding evidence-based best practice.
