Job Title: Compensation and Benefits Strategist

The London Fire Brigade is seeking an experienced professional to lead the transformation of its compensation and benefits function. This exciting opportunity enables better support for staff, allowing them to serve and protect London effectively.

This role requires a strong track record in leading successful negotiations with trade unions through periods of change, preferably in complex environments. Experience in negotiating and implementing compensation matters is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compensation Review Management: Design, review, negotiate, and implement the compensation review process.
  • Negotiations and Consultations: Manage annual and other compensation negotiations and consultations, aiming to reach agreements and inform stakeholders.
  • Rewards Strategy: Develop and implement a rewards strategy, reviewing new and existing rewards and benefits to meet changing staff needs.
  • Policies and Procedures: Own and update compensation, rewards, and benefit-related policies, consulting with stakeholders and conducting impact assessments.
  • Industrial Relations: Lead the design and implementation of an industrial relations strategy, representing the Brigade at meetings with trade unions.
  • Job Evaluation: Support job evaluation processes to ensure compensation, rewards, and benefits are role-appropriate.

Requirements:

  • CIPD Qualification: CIPD qualification or experience providing HR advice at a senior level within a large or complex public sector organisation.
  • Trade Union Engagement: Proven experience in engaging, consulting, and negotiating with trade unions and staff networks.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership skills, capable of leading staff through change and transition.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of strategic management, procurement processes, and equality, diversity, and inclusion issues.
