About the Role

Barnardo's is seeking a dedicated and empathetic individual to join our team as a Children's Rights and Advocacy Worker. This role is based within Feltham YOI, where you will work with children aged 15-18 who are in custody. As a child-led service, we empower children to understand that their thoughts, feelings, and needs matter.

As a Children's Rights and Advocacy Worker, you will be responsible for providing independent advocacy and support to children in the secure estate. This includes helping them make contact with friends and family, addressing concerns around discrimination, resettlement, and safeguarding, and providing a safe and non-judgmental space for them to express themselves.

The successful candidate will be able to work autonomously, following guidance and policy, and will be proactive in accessing support mechanisms as required. This role involves lone working in a challenging prison environment, and we are seeking someone who can see the child, not the offence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide independent advocacy and support to children in the secure estate
  • Help children make contact with friends and family
  • Address concerns around discrimination, resettlement, and safeguarding
  • Provide a safe and non-judgmental space for children to express themselves
  • Work autonomously, following guidance and policy
  • Access support mechanisms as required
