Independent Children's Rights Advocate

Barnardo's is seeking a dedicated and empathetic individual to join our team as a Children's Rights and Advocacy Worker. This part-time position is based within HMP Parc Young person's Unit, where you will work with children aged 15-18 who are in custody.
As a key member of our team, you will provide independent advocacy and support to children in the secure estate, empowering them to understand and assert their rights. You will work closely with children to identify their needs and concerns, and provide guidance and support to help them navigate the challenges of being in custody.
The role requires strong organisational, communication, and time management skills, as well as the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality advocacy and support services to children, while also contributing to the development of our team's practice and policies.
Key Responsibilities- Provide independent advocacy and support to children in the secure estate
- Work closely with children to identify their needs and concerns
- Develop and implement advocacy and support plans to meet the needs of children
- Contribute to the development of our team's practice and policies
- Work collaboratively with other agencies and professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for children
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Strong organisational, communication, and time management skills
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Experience of working with children and young people in a secure setting
- Knowledge of children's rights and advocacy principles
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
