We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate individual to join our team as a Climate Change and Energy Advisor. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in helping us achieve our goal of becoming a net-zero carbon borough by 2045.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and delivering our energy programme and carbon management strategy. This will involve working closely with other teams within the authority, particularly business growth and investment, to ensure the decarbonisation of the energy sector aligns with our delivery of inclusive and sustainable growth.

You will also be responsible for internal carbon management, Council utility management, and project management of a portfolio of energy-related projects. As our Energy and Carbon Specialist, you will have the drive and expertise required to work with businesses, communities, councillors, the Senior Management Team, our partners and our staff to help us deliver our transition to net zero.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Council's Energy Officer, ensuring the successful delivery of the energy programme.
  • Develop and implement effective energy and carbon management strategies.
  • Work closely with other teams to ensure the decarbonisation of the energy sector aligns with our delivery of inclusive and sustainable growth.
  • Manage internal carbon management, Council utility management, and project management of energy-related projects.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on all energy issues, ensuring that the Council delivers value for money alongside emission reductions in all its decision making.

Requirements

  • IT literate, with relevant energy experience and the ability to build effective relationships across the Council and with external stakeholders.
  • Existing track record of delivering carbon reduction and energy programmes, delivering new solutions and approaches within a complex environment.
  • Energetic, agile and responsive colleague and manager, able to work collaboratively with staff, members and stakeholders.
  • Passionate about the work of councils and the role of local democracy.
  • Ability to comment on planning applications to provide an informed response on energy and carbon matters.
  • Experience and expertise to mitigate potential issues and risks.
  • Excellent track record of successfully delivering multiple, concurrent projects and priorities.
  • Confident in building good relationships with colleagues and knowing when to resolve issues yourself and when to escalate.
