We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate individual to join our team as a Climate Change and Energy Advisor. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in helping us achieve our goal of becoming a net-zero carbon council by 2045.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from managing and delivering our energy programme to providing expert advice on energy and carbon matters. You will work closely with our Climate Change Manager, other teams within the council, and external stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of our energy and carbon reduction initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and deliver our energy programme, including the decarbonisation of the energy sector and the delivery of inclusive and sustainable growth.
  • Provide expert advice on energy and carbon matters, ensuring that the council delivers value for money alongside emission reductions in all its decision making.
  • Work closely with other teams within the council, particularly business growth and investment, to ensure the successful delivery of our energy and carbon reduction initiatives.
  • Manage the council's Energy Officer, ensuring the successful delivery of the energy programme.
Requirements
  • Is IT literate and has relevant energy experience.
  • Can build effective relationships across the council and with external stakeholders.
  • Has an existing track record of delivering carbon reduction and energy programmes, delivering new solutions and approaches within a complex environment.
  • Is an energetic, agile, and responsive colleague and manager, able to work collaboratively with staff, members, and stakeholders.
  • Is passionate about the work of councils and the role of local democracy.
  • Can spot potential issues and risks and have the experience and expertise to mitigate these.
  • Has an excellent track record of successfully delivering multiple, concurrent projects and priorities.
