About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Child and Adolescent Mental Health Specialist to join our team at Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality mental health services to children and young people in our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health issues in children and young people.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with families, carers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate risks associated with mental health issues.
- Work closely with schools, social services, and other agencies to ensure seamless care coordination.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams to share knowledge, expertise, and best practices.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest research, guidelines, and evidence-based practices in child and adolescent mental health.
Requirements
- Either a first degree in Psychology, Medicine, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, or an equivalent relevant core profession with extensive experience in child and adolescent mental health.
- At least 2 years of experience working with children and young people in a mental health setting.
- Knowledge and experience of working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or Learning Disabilities (LD).
- Able to complete academic components of the course and integrate training into practice.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working in a children's mental health setting.
- Experience of working in a children's educational setting.
Skills and Experience
- Demonstratable experience of working in child and adolescent mental health services.
- Ability to meet agreed service targets.
- Ability to manage own caseload and time.
- Demonstrates high standards in written communication.
- Able to write clear reports and letters to referrers.
- Ability to evaluate and put in place the effect of training.
- Computer literate.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Has received training (either formal or through experience) and carried out risk assessments within scope of practice.
- Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients.
- Demonstrates an understanding of common co-morbid mental health difficulties for children and young people with ASD/LD.
- Experience of adapting interventions for children and young people with ASD/LD.
- Knowledge of NICE guidance for assessment and support of ASD.
- Knowledge of NICE guidance for assessment and support for children and young people with LD.
Travel Requirements
- Use of a car for business purposes.
- Has a UK driving license and access to a car for work purposes.
