At Polaris Community, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Child Support Specialist to join our team. This role is a pivotal part of our residential care program, providing a safe and nurturing environment for young males aged 13-18 years.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure a caring and motivating environment is provided for the young people, taking into account individual developmental needs.
  • Plan and prepare activities that meet the young people's needs and stimulate their learning and integration within the home.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness of legislation, guidelines, and policies to ensure compliance with the Children's Act, Children's homes regulations, and national minimum standards.
  • Observe and assess young people's progress, keeping accurate records of their achievements, behaviour, and important events.
  • Work collaboratively with local authorities/placing authorities to ensure outstanding care for the young people.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with parents/carers to support the young people's learning and development.
  • Be flexible within the working practices of the home, including undertaking domestic tasks such as meal preparation, cleaning, and shopping.
  • Maintain clear and legible records regarding the young people, ensuring that entries are legible, clearly expressed, and distinguished between fact, opinion, and third-party information.
Essential Skills:
  • Previous experience working with teenage boys or challenging behaviour, with a willingness to further develop skills.
  • Hold a driving licence and have access to a vehicle, as public transport is not a viable option due to the rural location.
  • Hold a Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent, or be willing to work towards the required qualification.
  • Able to challenge unacceptable behaviour, provide firm boundaries, and meet individual needs.
  • Maintain policies and procedures.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
