Job Summary

The Wakefield Council is seeking a skilled and compassionate individual to fill the role of Emergency Department Link Worker. This position is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about providing support to individuals in crisis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide non-clinical support to individuals presenting with mental health difficulties, distress, and/or thoughts of suicide at the Acute Psychiatric Liaison Service (ALPS) in A&E.
  • Connect individuals to complementary and alternative crisis services within the community, including crisis cafés, safe spaces, and peer support services.
  • Signpost individuals to emergency housing, food, community health services, and other necessary resources.
  • Coproduce safety/recovery plans with individuals and jointly assess and agree the most appropriate ongoing support in the community.
  • Make referrals and connect individuals directly into support services, following up with services and the individual as needed.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varying levels of need.
  • Knowledge of mental health services and resources in the community.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Arrangements

This role is a fixed-term position for up to 12 months. The successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends.
