Early Days in Custody Mental Health Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse to join our Early Days in Custody Team at HMP Elmley. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing holistic care to prisoners during their first 14 days in custody.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive health and social care assessments for new prisoners, identifying immediate health, risks, and safety needs.
- Develop initial mental health crisis plans for patients at risk of a mental health crisis.
- Lead on identifying patients whose needs, risks, or circumstances have changed following a return from court or hospital.
- Collaborate with other specialist services to ensure continuity of care and through-the-gate arrangements.
- Provide brief interventions for substance misuse and mental wellbeing, including sleep hygiene advice and breathing techniques for anxiety management.

Person SpecificationWe are looking for a candidate with:
- Registered Mental Health Nurse qualification.
- At least 2 years post-qualification experience as an RMN.
- Extensive clinical experience, including individual and group work reflecting social inclusion.
- Supervisory experience of junior staff and students.
- Ability to establish rapport with difficult-to-engage service users.
- Effective written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills.
