About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse to join our Early Days in Custody Team at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive health and social care assessments for new prisoners, identifying immediate health, risks, and safety needs.
  • Develop initial mental health crisis plans for patients at risk of a mental health crisis.
  • Lead on identifying patients whose needs, risks, or circumstances have changed following a return from court or hospital.
  • Collaborate with other specialist services to ensure continuity of care and through the gate arrangements.
  • Provide brief interventions for substance misuse and mental wellbeing, including sleep hygiene advice and breathing techniques for anxiety management.
Requirements
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse with at least 2 years post-qualification experience.
  • Extensive clinical experience, including individual and group work, reflecting social inclusion.
  • Supervisory experience of junior staff and students.
  • Ability to establish rapport with difficult-to-engage service users and build effective working relationships.
