About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse to join our Early Days in Custody Team at HMP Elmley. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing holistic care to patients in their first 14 days of custody.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive health and social care assessments for new prisoners, identifying immediate health, risks, and safety needs.
  • Develop initial mental health crisis plans for patients at risk of a mental health crisis.
  • Lead on identifying patients whose needs, risks, or circumstances have changed following a return from court or hospital.
  • Collaborate with other specialist services to ensure continuity of care and through-the-gate arrangements.
  • Provide brief interventions for substance misuse and mental wellbeing, including sleep hygiene advice and breathing techniques for anxiety management.

Person Specification
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse with a degree supplemented by diploma or specialist training.
  • At least 2 years post-qualification experience as an RMN, with extensive clinical experience and supervisory experience of junior staff and students.
  • Ability to establish rapport with difficult-to-engage service users, build effective working relationships, and work autonomously.
