About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Mental Health Nurse to join our Early Days in Custody Team at HMP Elmley. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing holistic care to patients during their initial 14 days in custody.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct comprehensive health and social care assessments for new prisoners, identifying immediate health risks and safety needs.
  2. Develop and implement individualized care plans that address patients' health and wellbeing needs, working closely with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  3. Provide brief interventions for substance misuse and mental wellbeing, including sleep hygiene advice and anxiety management techniques.
  4. Collaborate with other specialist services to ensure continuity of care and effective discharge planning.
  5. Lead on identifying patients whose needs, risks, or circumstances have changed following a return from court or hospital, and develop and implement revised care plans as necessary.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Registration as a Registered Mental Health Nurse with the NMC.
  • At least 2 years post-qualification experience as an RMN, with a strong background in individual and group work, social inclusion, and supervisory experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Able to work autonomously, set priorities, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
