Early Days in Custody Mental Health Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Mental Health Nurse to join our Early Days in Custody Team at HMP Elmley. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing holistic care to patients during their initial 14 days in custody.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive health and social care assessments for new prisoners, identifying immediate health risks and safety needs.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans that address patients' health and wellbeing needs, working closely with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Provide brief interventions for substance misuse and mental wellbeing, including sleep hygiene advice and anxiety management techniques.
- Collaborate with other specialist services to ensure continuity of care and effective discharge planning.
- Lead on identifying patients whose needs, risks, or circumstances have changed following a return from court or hospital, and develop and implement revised care plans as necessary.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Registration as a Registered Mental Health Nurse with the NMC.
- At least 2 years post-qualification experience as an RMN, with a strong background in individual and group work, social inclusion, and supervisory experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Able to work autonomously, set priorities, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
