We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse to join our Early Days in Custody Team at HMP Elmley. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality healthcare services to prisoners during their initial 14 days in custody.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive health and social care assessments for new prisoners, identifying immediate health risks and safety needs.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans that address the unique needs and circumstances of each patient.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless care coordination and continuity of services.
- Provide brief interventions for substance misuse and mental wellbeing, including sleep hygiene advice and anxiety management techniques.
- Lead on identifying patients whose needs, risks, or circumstances have changed following a return from court or hospital outside of the reception process.
- Ensure that all waiting times, assessments, and interventions are delivered in a timely manner, contributing to the achievement of service performance targets.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Registration as a Mental Health Nurse with the relevant professional body.
- At least 2 years post-qualification experience as an RMN, with extensive clinical experience and supervisory experience of junior staff and students.
- Ability to establish rapport with difficult-to-engage service users, build effective working relationships, and communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
- Ability to work autonomously, set priorities, and manage time effectively.
