About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Mental Health Nurse to join our Early Days in Custody Team at HMP Elmley. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing holistic care to prisoners during their initial 14 days in custody.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive health and social care assessments for new prisoners, identifying immediate health risks and developing individualized care plans.
  • Work collaboratively with prisoners, families, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless continuity of care.
  • Provide brief interventions for substance misuse and mental wellbeing, including sleep hygiene advice and anxiety management techniques.
  • Lead on identifying patients whose needs, risks, or circumstances have changed following a return from court or hospital, and develop tailored care plans to address these changes.
  • Collaborate with other specialist services to ensure integrated and collaborative working, including continuity of care and through-the-gate arrangements.
Requirements
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse with at least 2 years post-qualification experience.
  • Extensive clinical experience, including individual and group work, reflecting social inclusion.
  • Supervisory experience of junior staff and students.
  • Ability to establish rapport with difficult-to-engage service users and build effective working relationships.
