About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse to join our Early Days in Custody Team at HMP Elmley. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality healthcare services to prisoners during their initial 14 days in custody.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive health and social care assessments for new prisoners, identifying immediate health risks and safety needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans that address the unique needs and circumstances of each patient.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless care coordination and continuity of services.
  • Provide brief interventions for substance misuse and mental wellbeing, including sleep hygiene advice and anxiety management techniques.
  • Lead on identifying patients whose needs, risks, or circumstances have changed following a return from court or hospital outside of the reception process.

Person Specification
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse with a degree supplemented by diploma or specialist training.
  • At least 2 years post-qualification experience as an RMN, with extensive clinical experience and supervisory experience of junior staff and students.
  • Ability to establish rapport with difficult-to-engage service users, build effective working relationships, and communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
