Your Role: Veterinarian for External Animal Welfare Assurance
We are seeking a skilled veterinarian with expertise in laboratory animal medicine and science to contribute to our external animal welfare assurance program. This temporary position (2 years) will involve working closely with the pRED Animal Welfare Officer for external animal use.
Your Impact:
- Plan and conduct external animal welfare diligence and monitoring activities at research establishments engaged in animal care and use, collaborating with scientific experts as needed.
- Provide expert advice on laboratory animal science and medicine in the design, ethical review, and conduct of external studies.
- Conduct literature reviews on laboratory animal science and medicine to inform decisions regarding standards of care and use.
- Stay abreast of novel applications of the 3Rs principles (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) and actively share information within the pRED animal welfare and science community.
- Gather and analyze metrics about the effectiveness of the pRED external animal welfare assurance program to inform further developments.
- Act as a deputy to the pRED Animal Welfare Officer for external animal use.
Your Profile:
- Hold a university degree in Veterinary Medicine recognized by the RCVS.
- Possess professional qualifications and experience in laboratory animal medicine and science, including rodents and non-rodents (e.g., primates).
- Demonstrate an understanding of managing animal care and use programs.
- Have gained experience at an AAALACi-accredited laboratory animal facility.
- Possess sound knowledge of EU regulations on animal care and use in research.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
