Benefits and Housing Needs Officer

We are seeking a skilled Housing professional to join our team as a Benefits and Housing Needs Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to advance your career and make a real difference in the lives of our community members.

Role Purpose

The Benefits and Housing Needs Officer will be responsible for ensuring the most appropriate resolution to housing need in the borough. This will involve preventing homelessness by providing comprehensive housing advice to members of the public, assessing homelessness applications and reviews, and ensuring the provision of temporary accommodation where appropriate.

Main Area Of Responsibilities
  1. Ensure timely and effective assessment of homelessness applications and reviews.
  2. Provide comprehensive housing advice to members of the public to prevent homelessness.
  3. Assess medical questionnaires to inform the appropriate priority of Housing Register applicants, the lettings of properties, and the provision of temporary accommodation.
  4. Respond to complaints and enquiries from stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner.
  5. Deal with casework and information sensitively, observing the need for confidentiality at all times.
  6. Provide a high standard of customer care at all times, dealing with customers courteously and professionally.
  7. Represent the Benefits and Housing Needs Service at internal and external meetings, acting as an ambassador for the Council and reflecting Council policies and objectives.
  8. Conduct visits to customers and properties to carry out statutory and corporate duties, including residency checks and assisting vulnerable members of the community.
Person Specification
  1. Minimum 3 years previous experience as a housing officer for a previous council or housing association.
  2. Ability to travel around the borough to conduct visits to customers and landlords.
  3. Good understanding and knowledge of Benefits and Housing needs, as well as other relevant legislation.
Contract
  1. 3 month initial ongoing contract with the opportunity for extensions for the right candidate.
  2. PAYE via Umbrella.
  3. Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm (some out of hours may be required).
  4. Full Time, HYBRID.
