Nuclear Compliance Role for National Nuclear Laboratory

We are seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Compliance Specialist to join our team at National Nuclear Laboratory. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to play a key role in shaping the future of the nuclear industry.

About the Job
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all regulations governing the nuclear industry and site licence conditions.
  • They will also lead on incident and event management, assessing the impact and coordination of activities required to achieve compliance in the most effective way for the business.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Daily Operations: The Duty OCO (DAP) will be accountable for overall control and supervision of people and plant for their area(s) of responsibility.
  2. Command and Control: The Duty OCO (DAP) must demonstrate effective command and control while maintaining independence and preventing potential conflicts between safety and production.
  3. Compliance Record: The Duty OCO (DAP) will open/close their area of responsibility, conduct Daily Start Up/Close Down Checks, and record them on an associated Compliance Record.
  4. Incident Management: The Duty OCO (DAP) will be the primary point of contact for any local incidents occurring within their area(s) of responsibility.
  5. Risk Assessment: The Duty OCO (DAP) must have knowledge at all times of all persons attending their area(s) of responsibility and ensure routes are thoroughly risk assessed and deemed safe.
  6. Forward Vision: An OCO (DAP) will assist the Operations Manager in delivering company values and maintain a forward vision to develop and implement best solutions for the business.
  7. Work Package Authorisation: An OCO (DAP) will present work requests to the Operations Manager for authorisation prior to presenting them to the Site OCM for final endorsement.
Requirements
  • A degree-level education in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Holds IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent as a minimum qualification.
  • An ability to analyse and interpret complex information from several sources and make decisions based on this information.
  • Highly motivated with excellent communication skills to communicate concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to remain calm under stressful circumstances and influence negotiations with employees and stakeholders.
  • A thorough awareness of nuclear, conventional safety, and security requirements applicable to their area(s) of responsibility.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of operational and maintenance requirements associated with their area(s) of control.
  • SC level security clearance, including identity, employment, financial, and criminal record checks, plus 5 years' worth of UK residency.
