About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapy Support Worker to join our team at Hywel Dda University Health Board. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will work closely with our Occupational Therapist to deliver a high-quality service to patients on the ward.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with clients who have dementia, including younger dementia sufferers and those older people living with functional mental illness with increased complexity.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of individualized care plans to promote independence, health, wellbeing, and safety.
  • Conduct simple occupationally focused assessments and deliver a variety of Occupational Therapy therapeutic interventions.
  • Use creative skills to provide a flexible, person-centered program of meaningful activities for individuals/groups of patients, aimed at restoring and maintaining functional ability.
  • Work effectively with a team to achieve good patient experiences and outcomes to support multi-disciplinary care and discharge planning.
Requirements
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in health and social care.
  • Additional knowledge and experience of Occupational Therapy principles and grading/task analysis to improve function.
  • Ability and willingness to complete the Level 3/4 OT Support Worker Diploma.
  • Understanding of the functional impact of dementia and other mental health conditions.
  • Knowledge of leisure, creative, and technical skills and its application within one-to-one and group interventions.
  • Working knowledge of basic aids/equipment for independence.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the roles of other staff groups in Health and Social Care.
  • Health, safety, and risk awareness.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Relevant additional courses to support clinical work, such as Motivational Interviewing, Teepa Snow training, Pool Activity Level, Sensory Integration, and Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST).
  • Trusted Assessor Training.
